I'm my personal experience these guys have one thing in mind and it doesn't involve gentle.
That being said, and in retrospect, all my leghorn hens are have fully feathered backs though exposed to multiple roosters while the softer/ looser feathered hens, rocks, sexlinks, Easter eggers (Many) have some exposed skin in areas due to the rampant testosterone running around the yard.

I crossed some of my leghorn hens with an amerucana rooster last year in an effort to get larger yet colored eggs. It worked, I'm getting a nice sized very pale blue egg. The girls are mostly white with some black splashes, have muffs, are a bit flighty, wait, lets call them mercurial for political correctness, and intersingly two of them are the most absolutely persistent broodies I've ever owned. I swear I've been pulling eggs laid by other birds out from under one of these grumpies for 3 + months.

Tru
The last few times I have not witnessed a loss of feathers. Can a rooster be gentle enough not to cause feather loss or is it just a fluke?
true,, feathers fly--- but I do know my Buff Orphingtons would pull each others feathers-- I was told they are related to Road Island Reds and they are feather pullers

Well, it is hard to think it is the last week of June. I hope you all have had a productive 6 months. I have a few more projects at hand. The middle of May to the first of June we replaced our 30 year old carpet with Mohawk waterproof; dog proof; grandkid proof flooring. We pulled out out 1908 cast iron tub to refinish. MAN is it hard to purchase the proper refinishing items! We got the adhesive; primer;and paint in- we are just waiting on the acid etch for iron to come AND then the fun begins DSCN1810.JPG
DSCN1869.JPG It sits outside, waiting

Have a great day!!!!!!
