I just got a couple of Leghorn hens and so far they have been a delight to watch. We've still got them staying in the pen/roost for another week to make sure they know where home is. I can't wait to see them running around our yard. Thank you for posting all of this. I love learning about the breeds of chickens like this!

I am so glad you have enjoyed my adventure hehehe
They are so very smart birds.
I hope your do well.

Good Sunday Morning,

When I opened the coop at 5am, all of the Brown LH'S were on the roost one Red LH and one White Orp. the 2 smaller chicks one Red and one White slept in the nesting box which tells me they fell off and rather than pass by a big hen to get back up they went to the box. So this is good, The White LH's, one year olds, I have now slept on the roost at 4 weeks.

Ok everyone, finish up that coffee and lets get things ready.
I know you are all stressed and doing the best you can,
Our animals/pets depend on us
if it is 95 on the porch then it is 102+ out in the coop/run
It's when they are holding their wings away from their body in conjunction with some of the following symptoms that you may need to take action.

Panting. Chickens only pant if they are hot, so this can be the first indicator that they are becoming overheated!
Their comb and wattles will feel hot to the touch.
Seems to have lost her appetite.
Lethargic behavior. Weakness.
Closed eyes while standing.
May be staggering when walking.
The may lay down completely spread out with wings and feet extended.
Watery droppings caused by increased water intake
Decreased egg production (though admittedly this sometimes happen
during heat waves without the chickens suffering from heat stress!

Lets be safe out there,
