Dad had similar problems using his smart phone so we practiced until he was confident. He never mastered text messages though, even when using a hand held fake fingertip thingy I got for him, he still couldn't hit the right letters on the screen. They were just too small for him to see well and use comfortably.

Now here's a thing. I can't answer the phone when someone rings me. There is a red phone icon and a green phone icon and, as one would, I press/tap the green icon and nothing happens. My daughter tells me I need to swipe it, but which direction?
Another thing to keep in mind, Shad, is that the gesture for answering a call can depend on the brand of the physical handset. I believe most androids are swipe to answer but some are tap to answer.
