Vetericyn also comes in a gel. Works better for me as the watery spray seems to run right on past the area I am spraying.

Edit: maybe the kind I have is intended for horses, I will have to check.

The bottle of vetericyn I have has 2 types of sprays on the cap... a stream and then a mist. I use the mist. I shield the roosters eyes and just do the mist a couple of times on each side of his comb

My rooster is eating when I help him stand up straight. He is drinking his electrolytes the same way. Finally have normal looking droppings, more frequently, too. His wattles are starting to slough skin and they smell a little. I've been spraying them every few hours with the vetericyn spray. Yesterday he heard the hens clucking and he perked up on his perch and started crowing.

The update is much appreciated! Good to hear our patient is recovering. Have you let him have a visit with the girls? Short reunions would boost his morale. Just take care to protect him from the hens pecking at his wounds, which they will do. Maybe take him out in a crate and leave him in it while they all visit.

I had a dying rooster that could no longer stand. I took him out for one final visit with his girls and his mood was transformed, he was so excited to see his hens again even though he was helpless to do any more than talk to them.

I think if you let him visit like this, it will improve his recovery.
