My childhood was far from perfect, one thing that once bothered me was living with a step parent that did not love you but blamed you for ruining her life. I am an adult now and have come to understand that those things that happened to me helped shape me to who I am today so I do not now, looking back (something I rarely do) see those things as something that however bad they were have helped me not harmed me because I survived it..

1960- Kids across the street having a small party and having fun. Neighbor lady walks over and asks for them to quite down a little. The kids say 'yes mam' respectfully and quite down a little.

Now- Kids across the street are having a loud party and doing who wants to know what. Neighbor lady is too scared/lazy to go over for fear of being harrased and/or because people don't take care of there own problems to well anymore. She calls the cops they come kids scatter with there drinks and drugs.

1960-kids are having a small party. cops see and drop by. they ask how the kids are doing and make sure no one leaves after having a beer or two.

Now-Kids are having a party cops drop by and arrest and test kids who have most likely had more than one or two beers. They take them in fine them and have parents take them.

1960-Kids said 'yes mam' 'no mam' 'yes sir' 'no sir'. Every mom in the neighbor hood knew your mom and they watched out for you and scolded and even spanked you when you where bad and kids respected them.

Now- kids never say mam and sir and have little respect. Moms don't dare even talk to someone elses child for fear of being arrested for kid napping or something of the sort.

2011: James gives a speech which mentions God. Teacher tells the principal, and James is expelled.

Thanks for the update. I've worked overseas in various countries. When people talk about a loss of freedom here in the US you can't imagine how uninformed and actually ridiculous I consider that type of statement. But then look at my signature. I may not consider freedom to mean the same thing as some others.

I still do. But I live on a private road and none of my neighbors or me think anything of asking somebody they don't know what their business is on this road. Some places I have lived I locked my doors and car doors every night.
