Setting the week of August 22 (or so... ) Everyone join!! You know you want to!

I have only gotten rid of the obvious ones. Weepers and stinkers and then 2 that had veining at one time but then it changed to just a floating blob. So far according to the eggtopsies I am right on. since this is my first time as well I have left one that has a darker thick shell that I can't see much of anything. It is also my biggest egg. Wonder if it is a different breed. I agree that if it is not obvious then leave them. It can't hurt as long as they are not weeping and stinking.

Lockdown for me is Tuesday. Actually will be relieved as I am so paranoid about dropping/cracking an egg while turning.

I am down to four good ones now, and a bit disappointed, but if these four hatch, then that's four more than I had before I set. :D And one is from an all-silkied quad of birds, so it will be silkied for sure, bringing me to three total of that feather type. ^..^

Lockdown Sunday for my little ones :D

Day 14 candle. pulled 2 more eggs out that were too clear for this point. Down to 9 left and I think I saw toes in one of them but it moved too quick. I think they move away from the light. 4 more days till lock down and I am trying to figure out a water delivery system to get my humidity up for the last 3 days.

Here's what my dad did to our Hoverbator genesis 1588 ..... he found an old aquarium tube & found that lil funnel somewhere out in his workshop b/c I think everything in the world you could possible need to survive is out there LOL, and duct taped it on!

I got my courage up today and removed the ones I knew were not going to develop - very sloshy inside with very little gray matter and also the one that had the single vein that turned black. Eggtopsies confirmed. Once I kind of understood what I was seeing in there I took out the worst ones. They were completely scrambled (I tapped all around lightly with a knife and cracked gently). The only one that wasn't scrambled was the one with the vein. That was all I found, but it smelled a little when I opened it. The last six are going into lockdown Monday. Only two are obviously alive and kicking, one other with dark growth that's suspicious but no smell, and three that I just can't see into well enough to rule out. Fingers crossed for at least two! My mail order chick companions will arrive Tue or Wed.

It broke my heart a little to pull and crack open. I really wanted to know what was or was not going on inside though.

Search is on for aquarium tubing and a tiny funnel or something to get water thru the tube. Also think I am going to pick up some new sponges.

I was able to get my humidity to almost 85%, but it freaked me out and I opened the Iid. Full story: I boiled some water put it in a small glass bowl and then shut the lid while the steam covered the top. What freaked my out is that I spilled a little boiling water on the thermometer and I thought my little eggs were baking. After that I kept doing that and got the humidity to stay at 70%+.

Today is day 18 (well at 11:30 pm) I am going to lock down in the morning tomorrow. All 6 eggs look great. For those who do not know I am experimenting I used 4 eggs stored at room temp. and 2 eggs from the refrigerator.

My Muscovy hen hatched out 7 eggs and I found two cold eggs abandoned in her nest, I guess she decided to venture out with her new ducklings. I put the two eggs in the incubator and hatched them out too. The first one hatched that day and the second one took three additional days.

Yes, broke my heart too. Finally giving up on them and afraid of what I may find. I found aquarium tubing are Meijer if you have one near you. I could not find a funnel anywhere that would fit into the tubing so I used a meat marinade injector without attaching the needle. The plastic nub fit perfectly into the tube. Its a cheap "Good Cook" brand. Works great!

I just ordered a dozen of SLW eggs! My 6 eggs are supposed to hatch next Tuesday and I will be setting the next bunch. Anyone else?
