Setting the week of August 22 (or so... ) Everyone join!! You know you want to!

Don't commit to buying them. A #4 isn't that dark. You can order from bargain on here, she has nice color eggs. Craigslist could be iffie. Go look at the chickens first and if you like what you see buy them.

Bargins eggs are nice and dark, thats my marans in my bator now:)shipped fabulously! double boxed and individually wrapped and marked for type of maran. so far so good, most are developing nicely as far as i can tell, cuz they are very chocolate!

I will try and post some pics of the pullets I got from her hatch. Nice leg feathering.

Day 14 and just candled my eggs. Humidity has been mostly in the low 30% and sometimes going up to 40%, and temps have stayed in the 99-100 range. I took out the obviously clear ones. I am using a vintage slide projector that belonged to my grandfather to candle, and wow it works great on dark eggs :).

One thing I could see for sure that I couldn't see at 7 days was how wonky the air cells are on the shipped eggs compared to the local ones. WOW. I think I found one Ameraucana egg that didn't have air cell issues, a lot of them were saddle shaped, two were detached and one was ruptured.

So of the BCMarans the ones that aren't good were the ones I thought wouldn't be any good - the two pullet eggs and the bullet shaped one-they look like they weren't fertile. Of the Wheaten Ameraucanas I took more of a hit, 6 were clears (one of which had a ruptured air cell, another with a detached air cell), and one which I left in the incubator for the moment as it didn't smell I really suspect is an early quitter (looks like a blood ring, and a small black shadow that sort of floats to the bottom of the egg when I turn it) So that leaves me with six Ameraucanas that are still in the running. I found one more that is developing with a detached air cell, so I'm going to be careful with that one too - at this point I'm going to be hatching in cartons for sure.

BCMs - 9 developing
Ameraucanas - 6 developing

I also have to keep an eye on the Ameraucana eggs because they have already lost 12% of their weight, while the Marans have only lost an average of 8%. I don't want to go over the 14% mark...

went to the local feed store this morning and came home with 2 ducklings. My 3yr old wanted them really bad. I agreed.

I did not know about weighing so I have been going off of the size of the air sac. Most of mine are weird shapes from shipping but a few were looking really big. I upped my humidity in the hopes of slowing them a little. I went from the 40s to the low 50s.

I did an eggtopsy earlier today on the clears - of the marans eggs, one was not fertile (bullet shaped egg), one I couldn't tell just didn't develop (pullet) and the third (also a pullet) actually had a teeny tiny embryo in there (5 days maybe? about the size of 1/8").

Of the ameraucanas, all seemed to be non-starters but couldn't tell if they were fertile or not. I left one that looks too far behind to be okay and another that has a probable blood ring in the incubator, neither did I see movement in - if no change by lockdown out they go.

Day 20, 13, and 7

6 of 8 from the 1st clutch made it to lock down. Hopefully they all hatch. I'm worried about one of them, the air sac was attached to the side of the egg instead of the end.

Can't wait to hear the outcome. I have one with the air sac on the side as well. Are you going to help if it needs it?

Wow thats a pretty darn awesome list lol. YIPEE, I'm on day 16 ! expecting hatches this Tuesday, which will be the 20th day. Some will come earlier - there are about 2 that should hatch early that seem to be developed more than the others. One looks like it'll be late. Out of the new 6 duck eggs, 2 are developing. However. One looks as if it's on day 3, the other like 15 ! And I'm on day 6 with the new(er) eggs!! Also, in a lot of them I see nothing moving, but absolutely zero veining. Any ideas, anyone...

I'm jumping in :)
I bought 36 eggs (catdance. Silkies) day 15 for me. I just tossed the ones that never developed. (16)
Can't wait on lockdown!
This is my second incubation, so this time I'm doing dry hatch. Temperature is 100.2 humidity level between 20-25% will see how it goes :)
