This is just such a cute photo.

That makes me feel better - I really really tried to be as educated and careful as possible with the 13 shipped eggs I had shipped from Maryland to California- everything temps humidity etc. seemed pretty spot on -and I still only hatched one. Hatching eggs is humbling, and hatching shipped eggs is bordering on masochistic ;)

Shipped eggs ...true!Hahaha

So true!

I only had 3 out of 8 hatch and two have already died, so no more hatching for me.  Way too expensive & shipped eggs are working out for me :hit

Sorry for you dissapointing hatch.I know you are mad andso sad. but dont ge2t totally discouraged .I didnt get one chick my first 2 hatches.Shipped eggs.Felt so sad first time and mad second but dry hatched second snd think i killed what would have hatched. My suggedtion is get some local eggs.Temp is so critical. To kerp mp and humifity morr stable put in 15 - 20eggs not 6 like i did first 2 hatches. You will have an easier time Temp 99.5 and try and keep it there or between 98.8 and 100.3.I didnt think i had a draft but putting the bator in my closet worked well.Try your humidity at 42-45.and 70-75 at the last 4 days.See if you arent sucessful.

Also, you can put heat sinks in the incubator...Keeps the temps from fluctuating too much. Some people put clean rocks in the wells for heat sinks. I used some small sealed jars full of water.

Hi all - just wanted to say I had a fantastic time hatching with all of you. I've learned so much from these forums, and then to have our own thread for hatching support has been fantastic. I was thinking this morning before I started this grand experiment that In less than a month I've learned:

how to calibrate several different thermometers and hygrometers to make sure they are accurate
how to clean and sanitize a borrowed incubator
how to do dry incubation
how to make a heat sink
how to weigh eggs
how to calculate egg weight loss
how to candle eggs
how to stress out over eggs ;)
how to make little corrals in the incubator to separate different eggs so I can tell which chick hatched from which egg (note to self, make little fences higher when hatching marans as they like to jump fences... ;)
how to recognize a blood ring
how to open an incubator during lockdown using the shower technique (bring it into the bathroom with shower running to make sure humidity higher than inside incubator)
I'm sure

I feel like I just had a crash course or something..
