Sexing Bantam Cochin *Pics Added*

Pretty pullet! I'm jealous lol

Thanks Ally! Her comb looks redder to me than that pic. I should post some more pictures (I'll take some later). She is SUCH a spaz, she hates me, squawks in terror every time I go near her! :( I got her from MPC as a sexed pullet, but we'll see. When do you usually know for sure with this breed?

THanks mucho~

The ones I have I know the sex by 4-5 weeks 100%. The males comb develops fast. The comb gets plump and starts to redden.

This one is 4 weeks old. See the comb?

Now look at this black one on the far left. It's about 7 weeks in this pic. See how developed the comb is?

I ended up with 4 males and 1 female bantam Cochin, the struggle of straight run chicks lol

Thank you so much, that is really helpful! I love this forum, so much helpful info for first-timers like me. I really appreciate it. :) Here is another pic I was just able to snap~View attachment 1063529

You are welcome:) the more you raise of a breed the easier it gets to tell the gender. Your chickens are beautiful! Maybe next spring I'll look into getting a few more colorful Cochin chicks.

Thank you! I think so too, although I am prejudiced, lol. My white silkie, Big Bird, and my Mille Fleur D'Uccles, flower, are my favorites. They are sweet and beautiful. I got the chicken bug bad, I'm afraid. Counting down the days till I get my next five... :)

I can't say that the chicken bug goes away. I started last July with 10 and idk how many I'm up to. And I have 26 chicks in a brooder.

I have 2 porcelain D'Uccles and 13 silkie chicks. I love bantams lol

What kind are the 5 you ordered?

Yeah, chickens are crazy addicting! My husband thinks I'm a weirdo because all I do is read everything on chickens I can get my hands on, and I am always on here looking at pictures of people's chickens , lol!

I love bantams too! What I am getting is: 2 Salmon Faverolles, one Easter Egger, another Mille Fleur, and a "rare breed assorted" female. I cannot WAIT to get them. I am a total chickenaholic !! THey are so fun. I just started May 1, but I know I will never be without chickens for the rest of my life. :)
