here's a couple more pics. i've been thinking cockerel, too. it just grew up differently than the others. it didn't grow it's tail when the others did and was just different personality-wise. Unfortunately I cannot keep him because roosters are illegal where I live:(

Tail is not a dependable way to tell gender. The trend is the male’s tail is slower to come in, but this is not always the case and not always indicative of male. At this age, with not only that large comb, but those wattles, almost positive it is cockerel.
 
may I ask, if any of you could tell by the feather pattern, how you could tell?
You can't tell by feathering, except in certain breeds when the males and females are different coloring. Sometimes people say Wyandottes can be sexed by their lacing, but when your dealing with hatchery stock, you can't depend on it.

At 12 weeks, males develop specific pointy saddle feathers.
 
Yep...pebbles is indeed a boy! He’s been making rooster noises and definitely puffs his feathers up. I’m going to have to rehome him, sadly!
