Should I adopt this new chicken?!

I have integrated chickens into my flock. Always quarantined them with the exception of the first time. One of the new ones was sick and respiratory infection spread throughout my flock. I don't integrate into my flock now because it's a lot of work and I'm 3 days older than dirt. LOL. This is all good advice, but in the end it needs to be if the person is willing to go the extra mile to go the extra mile to quarantine the new bird. Love this link. So much info.

Wow...Don't confront me about Ducks...I rescue many and disease is not transferred..Whats your issue?
I have no issue here, Beside you are giving false info.
Yes, chickens carry diseases. But most diseases that birds in the same area carry will be transferred anyway, by the wind, by wild birds, by people and dogs, and a variety of other organisms. It's not completely safe--but neither is crossing the street.
X2!

All animals carry diseases. Ducks aren't nearly as dirty as chickens, but they can transfer diseases to and from chickens and between each other. That has even (though rarely) happened with marek's.

EDT: needed some clarification.
Not believing your info at all...Ducks do not get Mereks..That is absolutely false and I will not debate back and forth...Pointless and silly,,,

I already have five adult hens who are all siblings. Recently, the people at the barn where I board my horse just rescued a small chicken from s neighbor who moved. It is a tiny white bantam chicken but I can not tell the gender. They now realized they can't keep the chicken because it keep pooing on the horse tack so they need a place to keep it. Would it be okay for me to keep this tiny little Bantam chicken with my five large ISA brown hens or would they pick on the little one too much. We have a large run but they also don't free range.

Hello MyISAbrownhens,

This is a heated and diverse subject, something you may want look into a bit more.

Here is a link to a recent thread about adopting chickens. Some of the replies are from me.

There are risks and rewards, but ultimately, you'll have to decide.

I have adopted twice.

Thank you guys for all your advice. I decided not to keep the bantam chicken but will help him find a new home because I don't want to risk it. Also, it would be a little hard right now to take on a new chicken and quarantine/introduce a new chicken due to a recent hip break and surgery I just had due to horse riding, but I have my husband taking care of the chickens while I'm healing, little confused on how the subject changed to duck diseases so quick though, but thanks to all the people who helped steer me in the right direction with my discussion, hope to find him a good home for the little guy soon, even though it was so tempting to add another to my flock.
