99.9% of people are always worried about raccoons with rabies. It's almost never rabies anymore but distemper. Years ago I was checking traps at about 3 am in the woods along a two track. Passed a raccoon sitting in the middle of the road holding its head in its hands. I got out with a .22 and poked it to get him off the dirt road. Took me 15 minutes to get him 5 ft to the wood line. Went on checking traps for about an hour or so, came back through and he was back in the middle of the road again. I tried again but he just kept snarling and looked like something out of a horror movie. Had to put him down.): distemper sounds like h*ll
