Another gets close to 50 feet tall but my location is a little to dry and just outside what it can tolerate with respect to cold. Stems on it about 3" in diameter..

Sounds like it would do great here. At our zoo there's bamboo the size of what you're describing

And and is it true to plant bamboo my digging a trench and laying it horizontally in the trench cause the new shoots will grow from the nodes?

Yeah.. I did some sugar cane late last year using that method.. I soaked the cuttings in water first for a week or two, then planted horizontally. They require a lot of water to take off. My dry areas have stunted shoots. In the wetter area I get a dozen shoots from one cutting and they are about 3' right now with leafs/blades reaching 5'-6' . about 1" dia

I hope I dont have to get rid of one.. I need to build more pens or figure something out so I can keep some stags from this year. I am trying to sell some adult birds on Craigslist to make room, but I am really picky who I respond to. My wife says I interogate people. lol

So far I only have one 2015 stag penned.. A dark leg Grey from my original grey line.

Them round grow out pens are about as wonderfully awesome to keep stags in as it gets to buy time with the ones you absolutely do not want to part with
