Looks like 4 outta 6 eggs. I haven't messed with her at all yet though. Just enough to give em feed and water.how many she end up hatching
so sorry for you loss.. I would devastated too.. I'd tear up for sure and probably cry.
I took my two beautiful game roosters and built them separate pens so they wouldnt fight and gave each a few hens.
I came home yesterday and my roomates dog had torn through all three chicken coops, breaking open the doors and had killed 18 of the 21 chickens. She had just killed them one after the other and left
bodies everywhere. Here is a pic of the toughest rooster with his hen a few days before. I had the other smaller game rooster with a little bantam polish hen and he would snuggle up to her and sun together with her and they looked really adorable and seemed very happy, as happy as a chicken could be-he had just started crowing at me all the time and was incredible friendly and would let me hold him
I didnt realize how much I loved the silly things until I lost them all. They were a mottly little crew of birds, cute cubalayas and a phoneix and some yokohamas and even a sumatra. I liked to sit with them in the afternoons after work and watch them just be silly little chickens. These seems dumb, but they were my little buddies![]()
she is a chow/german shep mix of some sort. She has killed cats and other small dogs in the past so has a history of being a bit aggressive. I guess she figured out how to get the back gate open and once in the yard, then figured out how to get into each of the coops. Smart dog, but I suspect Ill hold off on any more chickens until my friend moves out-even if I reinforced the coops, I dont think they would be foolproof, so Id risk a repeat.so sorry for you loss.. I lose more chickens to dogs than anything else. And its even worse that they dont eat them. Just kill for fun.
What kind of dog? Hard to blame a dog when they don't know any better. And they dont have malicious intent, just ignorant.
sounds easier to remove the dog, instead of trying to reinforce the coops. Dog will keep trying and probably dig under if needed. Especially when chickens are freaking out,,, just makes the dog more excited.she is a chow/german shep mix of some sort. Man, shubin you have been directly or indirectly responsible for an awful lot of dead animals for someone with your compassion. LolMy German shepherds all had problems with killing chickens... My new German Shepherd (2 years old now) has been really good for this whole year, but the first year he killed dozens of chicks and a few adults.
