It is largely consumer driven, although at times some segments of agriculture itself has promoted it. Consumers want to pay less and often imports are cheaper because of lower production costs. Production cost can be impacted a lot by regulations which the USA is a leader on. Soybean industry has promoted aquaculture in places like Vietnam which buys a lot of US soybeans. I get really ticked when crawfish, bullfrog and even bluegill products are now coming from China.
The high taxes this country imposes practically forces the American consumer to seek out lower cost imported goods since it all they can afford.

The factories overseas pumping wastewater straight into rivers destroying life for miles. Tanneries from leather goods (sneakers, clothing) pumping chromium sulphate directly into water sources with very little regulation. Seems like people here don’t care as long as it’s not in their backyard. It really is pretty sad.

Big companies like Walmart demand manufacturers to lower prices on items if they want to sell them in their stores. The manufacturers think they’re slick. Products look the same yet have different skus. The Walmart item is cheaply made to meet the retail price that Walmart demands.
Interesting article about this awhile back with Snapper brand lawnmowers. The man in charge at the time said screw that and pulled business from Walmart altogether. They wouldn’t do it. Not sure about nowadays just about everyone has folded.

The only thing I’m sure of that’s made in the USA is the damn eggs that fall out of my hens and most of them have oriental in them. I would have to tag them
“Made in USA with imported materials”

Go to google, search "China Pollution"
This is the price they pay to produce crap products and crush American Made products.

They sell clean air in China.

You got oriental fowl? Isn't that blasphemy or something

It’s not sustainable. Eventually it will catch up to them. I’ve never been to China but in Korea all the fertilizer runoff destroys the streams. Seen that firsthand.
