Yep, from all this rain! Still standing water.Grass is about to die anyday now!
The only thing I have noticed with really late hatched birds is the stags don't seem to finish out their tails as nicely. It seems as thought they hold some of the tail feathers instead of that last molt into longer feathers. Now theyre gonna be short stationed runts!
Yeah, the grass and crops are growing like crazy here too. It is just the low lying areas that have had standing water all year so far. Chickens don't seem to mind a bit although all the early rain seemed to be hard on the little chicks.I have the opposite my grass is growing like no tomorrow and rain has been basically non stop especially last month. Our natural springs off the mountain have turned into creeks and the bottom of my field is a swamp. Seems that now summer may actually start next week hopefully lol not calling for anymore rain just yet.
I like the early chicks, just because I am too impatient to wait on the new crop of youngsters!I let the hens set when they want to for the most part. They choose to set later once it’s plenty warm here. They know better than me. We still get snow in April so it’s not even close to late season for me. They seem to know when chicks would have the best survival rate. Man doesn’t always know best.
