Evie is absolutely adorable and I love her fluffy butt...

On a non=dellie note (which I seem to be good at in this thread) I am on day 4 with my MIL in residence...we are both still alive however I cannot say for how long that will last...tomorrow looks questionable.

Good luck with the MIL ! We just had surprise overnight guests last night. Well, not a total surprise, as we knew a few hours in advance. It sure did mess up my day off work though.

Kathy check Ivy's thread in pictures stories etc etc....update on the Orp DeDe that I got from Cyn a few weeks ago...she is out with the flock today. hahahaha

Wow- catch up time!
Kathyinmo- I like him- I think he has good possibilities- looks like good barring in his tail- does he have a 6 point comb? I don't object to that at all. He looks like he will fill out nicely. I'm sorry your work day got thrown off course, but it sounds like it was GOOD company. And the Stella/Della lap chicken pics were great!

New2chooks- I am so sorry you lost your little pullet- I hope you catch the varmint that did it and get a little revenge!

Serrin, Chief is VERY handsome- I like that touch of gold in his feathers, very subtle and chic!
Prius is a beauty, and I love how chunky she is. There is either Del or, like Cyn said, Col. rock - and I absolutely love that redheaded girl of yours- what a beautiful color!

Kathychks- yay! You got more- I hope the last four eggs do something. I finally managed to look under Harriet and threw out the egg I knew was a dud last night, and just tossed the final egg- it was laid the same day as the four that hatched yesterday morning, and there wasn't a pip or a zip or a crack or a nothing on it- I could hear it slosh, so it went down the hillside, too. No explosions!

My little ones are fine - they had scrambled egg with mama Harriet- I am trying to feed her enough to induce her to stay up in her little area with them for another day, till I can fence off another corner in the run somewhere and keep her and the kids safe.

Isn't it so cool, watching mama and her babies? I love broodies! Is she staying where you want her to?

My broody Light Sussex is growling any time someone even walks near her! Not even near her, actually .... anyone walks into the garage gets growled at! Day 12 for her ....

check Ivy's thread in pictures stories etc etc....update on the Orp DeDe

Orp? She looks more like a Sumo wrestler to me! What is larger than huge? HUMONGOUS!!!

It's been awhile since I posted here but I have a question.

What is your ratio of roos to pullets when hatching? What has it been?

Right now it seems the roos are winning. How many heads roll as soon as you know it's a roo?

I'm really discouraged as I have the 5 from my speckledhen hatch and a chick that is def roo not including Nick. So that's 7. And that doesn't include the 2 Lav ameraucanas.

I'm set to have 4 Del roos butchered but they don't look like they'll ahve much meat on them and they're eating like crazy. Is there anything I can feed them to fatten them up in a month.

Here is a picture of my 3 little chicks. One is keeping one of its eyes closed. No drainage or swelling, and seems active. Hope it is better tomorrow. None of them would look at the camera, grrrrrrr

How old are they? I had a younger one 12 weeks that was small but I just butchered the rangiest ones of mine and they were 3.5 to 4lbs lots of meat at 19 weeks and my feed store has a grower 13% protein and I used a lot of whole grains wheat and barley and some cracked corn with all my free bread they had just enough fat.

On my Dellies it was about 50/50 now my Marans are about 75/25 pullets...I'm hoping for a roo out of the NH's I just hatched no roos yet so you never know....
