Sick Hen..egg bound? Something else? What can I do?

So sorry for your loss. You did all you could for her. Sometimes it helps to either get a necropsy by the state vet, or do a brief one at home to see what was causing her ascites. Some problems may be obcious while others are not so easy. Many take pictures of the abdominal organs and post them here for opinions. If you would like to get a necropsy, the body must be kept cold, but not frozen.

I'm very sorry for your loss. :hugs Her time was limited at best, birds that develop ascites are seriously ill and the prognosis is poor. There is no way to predict how long they may have, every case is individual. All we can do is make them as comfortable as we can, and say good-bye when the time comes. It is never easy, and it's just as sad as losing anyone else we love.

Aw, poor Pepper. I’m so sorry for your loss.

My first sick hen (just one year into chicken keeping!) got EYP and when she was drained by an avian vet, it was egg yolk colored. Later on when she got ascites again, it was not cloudy, but clear and brown. The avian vet that drained her then thought the brown was likely leftover blood from past inflammation from the EYP. Perhaps your girl had old blood in her abdominal fluid. Will you get her necropsied?
