Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

So I found a place in CT that sells bantam pullets, because I was thinking that even with the rooster gone I still want a pullet bantam and I ended up calling the nicest woman ever, and lo and behold, they have a Rooster flock of just boys! She and her husband love roos and keep them as a sanctuary thing. So I get to leave Chipmunk on a real farm, and come home with one or two pullet bantams instead! Joy. :)

Here's a link to the place if anyone else is interested: http://www.clarkfarmbusiness.com/Chickens-for-sale.html
I am happy for you Heather! It's hard parting with the boys as I well know.
Don't be surprised that a bantam hen doesn't take over the flock by force eventually. They are small but mighty in my experience. It's the napoleon thing.

I just may need that link some time soon! Do they take mildly psychotic roosters as well?

He's not mean, just a paranoid Schizophrenic.

I just got in from hanging with the girls for awhile. I noticed some weird behavior-I wonder if it's "Playing". The girls (big laying girls too) all do the rooster bully chest bump thing to each other. they remind me of my boys when they play football and do the chest bump in the air after a good play.
I would think it's either playing or pecking order establishment. Nobody gets hurt, they just do the chest bump, feathers ruffle a little then they keep scratching and pecking at the ground. Very entertaining.

I had to drive my daughter to her jobs today. First the movie theater, from noon to 4. Then from 4:30 and I'll pick her up at 10-10:30. While I was waiting for her at 4, my car said it was 103 degrees. I believe it. It was BRUTAL. I still feel rather strange, weak and my stomach is still a little queasy. I've been drinking alot of fluids so I guess it just takes some time to equalize again. If I'm not right as rain on Monday-off to the doctor I go!

Rosie, that's very scary stuff. If that happens again please get yourself to the emergency room. You may have also been low on electrolytes. Carry a banana and some Gatorade too next time.
Glad that you are okay now. Stay inside and soak up the A/C. And stay hydrated!

Yes, please go to the ER if that were to happen again. An IV can fix you up no time flat. Dehydration can throw your potassium out whack which can drop your blood pressure dangerously low. I went thru a similar situation with my sister this past spring, and her blood pressure nearly bottomed out. You may want to go see your doctor on Monday and tell her what happened. She can run some bloodwork and make sure your electrolytes are back in balance. Ok?

A) My girls do the chest bump thing too. I think they're just playing.
B) " Daughter" + "jobs" in the same sentence = a good thing. I wish.
C) Get thee to a doctor!

When I got up at 5 o'clock I should have just got in the car and went to Elephants Trunk.Richard was in a bad mood yesterday and I can't see it getting any better today. With the heat I can't escape to the back yard which I normally do.It didn't help when Adam called and said he is in Philly with his girlfriend Jen at her parents.Told us he couldn't come down early to visit ,that they were staying around Boston for the week. He called it a stacation. Learn a new word everyday with this new generation. In the five years they have been dating they have never hung out with us once.I have learned to just live with it, but it hurts Richards feeling (he has some) terribly. When Adam was growing up, I always said that they should be surgically attached at the hip since they spent so much time together.Richard has still not accepted him not wanting that anymore. Thanks for letting me vent.

I feel for you, and for your husband. It's tough to deal with letting go of your kid. Even though Laura lives here, we rarely spend any time together. Does your son know how your husband feels? And it may have nothing to do with your son and your husband. Maybe Jen's attached at the hip to HER parents.

Stay cool. Would it help to just walk up to your husband and just kiss him on the forehead and walk away? Always works wonders for Bobby's mood...
