Sticktight Fleas

I've had a few here with sticktight fleas and the treatment that works for me is to apply a 0.5% permethrin directly to the affected area. Apply a generous amount using a q-tip or small syringe. Avoid getting any in the eyes, of course, but don't worry if some does. Once the fleas are treated, lightly spray the rest of the bird.

When the fleas are treated with this 0.5% spray they die almost immediately and most will fall off in a few days after treatment. Those that don't fall off in 2-3 days can be scraped off with a fingernail.

You will also need to spray their coop and places where they might have picked up the fleas.

Is this the Permethrin 10?

Martins or Gordons are two common brands sold at TSC and online. They are mixed with water, and used with a spray bottle or gallon garden type sprayer. Mixing instructions for poultry are inside the label. A pint is under $10, and a $20 quart wil last a long time.View attachment 1593277

Thank you!!! I was just looking at this! Why do they show some with animals on the bottle and some with homes.... Is it a different strength? ( Sorry for all the questions, I've just never used this before )

I think the stuff with homes might be 38.6%

Thank you for checking on the dilution for me. These nasties are terrible!
The dilution will seem like a lot compared to the dilution needed for lice and mites, but keep in mind that I tried the lice/mite amounts and it didn't work as well.

The sticktight dilution amount is ~50 ml per quart or ~200 ml per gallon (I rounded up, actual per gallon amount is 6.7 ounces, which is 198.143 ml).

THANK YOU !!!!

And this is the dilution I use just on the comb and wattles and ears, correct? Do I put Vaseline on them afterwards? And how often am I probably going to have to treat?

I apply it with a small syringe or q-tip to the combs and wattles then lightly spray the rest of the bird in the usual spots (vent, under wings, legs, and back).

I do not use Vaseline and I do not need to retreat if I spray the ground where they got them.

How many of your chickens have fleas?

Just my rooster ( the guy in my Avatar )... He lives at my dad's.... And my dad's place is 22 acres of woods. So I am not really surprised he has them.
