Sultans!

Ugh, Charlie is so loud! Wow, my leghorn roos weren't so loud before I sent them off to live with another. I'm hoping he'll crow less once he's outside and gets a little older and more calm. He will be going into a rooster box at night, though. I'm putting him in a small dog crate now with a towel over it, which helps.

My biggest problem is I have to go away with the family sometimes, for up to a week, and I will have to find someone to help me, I cant' automate putting roosters in boxes! I don't like asking for help, especially if the only person I can ask is my mom, in which case I don't think she'd touch a bird, she's not an animal person

Gosh, I want a life with animals, yet I have a life that takes me away once a year (to visit in-laws). does this have to ruin the rest of my year? Am I being irresponsible? I just don't trust people to help and fear a disaster

I have some black sultans, living in Norway. They are not as thoroughly bred as the whites, but with a few more years of breeding they will hopefully come along nice. Here is a picture of a young hen hatched this april:

Hey Birdmaker, I for one would love to see how your chicks are doing and more pictures of your lovely black adults! How are you doing?

I dont know, Id like to see more too! I am actually loving my little sultan bantam. I didnt think I would be a fan of it since it was so "whiney" at first. But turns out its got a huge personality! I am going to try to post some pics today, as it has grown up a little since the last pics. Im stil nit sure on gender, but I am leaning towards hen. What color eggs do sultans lay? and how often? do you know by chance?

They lay white eggs, and I read about 70 per year, so not a good layer, really no meat, LOL, they're all for beauty

LOL. But that won't keep me from eating their eggs! Mine are bantam so they'll have pretty small eggs, but even so, I think LF also lay not so large eggs. They are supposed to not go broody as well. So talk about spoiled pretty faces that don't do any work....

er. didnt get any pictures today. We live in Oklahoma, and the wind was horrible today, so every time my little sultan would walk around outside, she would almost get blown away! I'll have to try for tomorrow. How many Sultans do you have?

I have about 28 standard size hens, and just the one sultan. She hasnt started laying yet, but when she does, Im sure I'll know because the size of her eggs! Silly question, does your Sultan accumulate poo around its butt from time to time?? or is it just mine? Seems like I have to bathe it every now and then because its butt gets so nasty lookin!
