Summer 2012 Granny "Square" Swap (sign ups closed)

My granddaughter left yesterday for Afghan. and we heard through facebook that she is now in Russia. Will get where she's going by tomorrow at the latest. My daughter and her husband signed papers for their loan today so they're one more step closer then they were. The loan was approved before they got here and they bought a house mucxh less than what the loan was approved for so their payments will be lower. Yeah!

Sunny it's till a pain, it's a good thing I already bought my truck, I'll never be able to finance a breath of fresh air again lol.
Alethea, yarn is always good for the kiddos lol! I'm trying to work on our squares here, and two girls are trying to make lap blankets to use at the football games. They are new members so lunches are not mine anymore. We eat, walk quickly, then crochet!

I have a group of kids at school that want to lose weight, I want to lose weight, so Livingston's Losers are power-walking at lunch if it's not too hot. You guys, I have 3 6th graders under 5"7, that weigh over 200 pounds. Please keep them in your thoughts as we try and meet their goals. They want to lose 10 pounds by Oct 1. Then go from there.

Our thoughts and prayers are with her, and I am thrilled for your daughter!

This whole time I was thinking you were waiting on peafowl hatching eggs.

Oh wonder you have been worried waiting on live shipment. So glad they have arrived safe & sound. They sound adorable! I can't wait to see them. I'm sooooooo excited for you!!!

LOL! Thanks Kim and Kassaundra! It is a huge relief to have them arrive safe and sound. :)
Sunny- I'm sorry you're having so much difficulty in electronics-land. I hope it gets better soon and look forward to chick pics.

Did anyone see the movie "The Net" with Sandra Bullock? It's partly about identity theft and is intense.

I've used all my swap yarn and won't get more until I return to Berkeley next week. I have (I think) twenty 6" squares and seven 12" squares with two more started. Meanwhile, I'll make flowers for a hat & scarf set I started making for a friend but won't give her because she's moving to Hawaii.
Hope to get the pics up soon. I'll try again tomorrow. Thanks for the movie suggestion. I like Sandra Bullock. And yeah, not much use for scarves and hats in Hawaii. My DD moved there for a little while but said she missed us too badly to stay. Really tried to talk us into moving too but no funds for that adventure plus I can't leave the other kids and grandkids. It is a very costly place to live!
Good Morning~

No swap crocheting for me all week long. I did do a few stitches on DD's afghan and I think I'm on my last ball of yarn, so I'll have to get some more to be able to finish it.

Sunny~ I'm so sorry you are still having tech difficulties, but glad you can at least post from home now. I hope it all gets resolved soon. I can't wait to see peachicks & square pics!!!

And I can't wait to show them off! They are very unique looking with their long skinny necks and tiny tufts on their heads. :)
Okay, thanks. I only have 8 done...

Haha. Oh boy. Less chicken time, more crochet :D
I'm pretty close to that number myself but I know that as I get more done I will move faster and faster. It always works that way for me. Takes me a bit to get the pattern down but once I do it just starts flowing and I can zip along.
I only have about 6 complete, but several more then that in progress. The 6 inch ones I am doing in stages, the crocheting first (all done w/ that) then the weaving (mostly done) then the embroidery (not even started except on that first test square). I get more work done on Saturdays when I'm at work.
I like to finish mine in stages as well. I think it was all those years in manufacturing. The assembly line approach works so well.
No wonder you are so excited! I would be too. Lost a hen to heat today. It was 111 at 5 pm and is still 104.
Oh dear! So sorry! With that kind of heat it is bound to happen. I sure hope it cools off soon! It was just over 100 here today but not as high as you're suffering through.

Oh my heart goes out to your family and your granddaughter! We have been there (our son-in-law and our nephew) and it is not a good feeling. You want to stay super positive but you worry about them at the same time.

Such good news about your daughter and her husband signing the loan papers though! Sounds like a great step in the right direction.

Oh wow! That must be hard on their joints and respiratory system but they are young and it sounds like they are committed to feeling better. Tell them we are all rooting for them!!! 10 lbs is a great goal. Too many people get these ridiculous notions of losing all their weight in one fell swoop and that is just not realistic. Losing weight slowly has been shown to work better for keeping the weight off in the long term. Gives the body time to adjust slowly and healthily instead of going into famine mode. Good luck to them!

Kate-Thank you for all you do for those children. You never know what kind of seeds get planted.

I'm staying in Mt. Shasta for an additional two weeks, so might not get swap yarn soon. Meanwhile, I'm continuing on the flowers, making a hand-towel and washcloth, and teaching someone how to crochet. My crochet juices continue to flow.

Still hot here. Today is DH and my 20th wedding anniversary. My granddaughter is now in Russia and will be there a couple of days before going on to Afghan. Why I don't know.

I love Mt. Shasta, I stay there when I do archeology work on Mt. Shasta and Mt. Lassen. I would like to live there,, I have a bunch of friends up in Yreka too. I couldn't breath today with my sinus infection, but we walked anyway. It was too hot for 2 rounds, so we did 1. One of the hardest parts is keeping them from going to the nurse's office to weigh in. They don't realize it takes longer to lose and right after lunch is NOT a good time to weight anyway! We'll do it in a week, in the morning.

Smart. I'm trying to lose a couple pounds too but it just does not drop off like it used to.

Betty-Happy anniversary.

Kate-I,too, love Mt. Shasta and lived here 17 and a half years. Now I'm a snowbird, Mt. Shasta in Summer and Berkeley in Winter. Now we are surrounded by wildfires (big one in Lassen) and the air is thick and fragrant and the sun is orange. If you'd like to get together next time you are here, let me know.
