Still no rain here. It's pretty much too late for the wheat, but some would at least help it fill better, plus it would be nice for my garden.

Say it isn't so, Katy!! I'm so sorry- it was quick and easy here, but it'd have been a bit of good if you'd gotten it...will your county be in on the disaster area declaration? Will that help at all?

Going to pray you get rain right now!!

Yep, unfortunately it's so......about .25" in April......about the same in March. The last really measurable moisture we had was the first week of February. Have they declared a disaster area yet? I haven't heard that they have, but that doesn't mean they haven't. I know to the west of here it's even worse than it is here. I think my cousin has already worked up a lot of his. Some of them haven't had any real rain since last summer.

That's awful Katy. We haven't had as much in Wichita as in some parts of the state either. None at all today. An insignificant amount on Monday evening. On the news this morning they said we'd had less than half a typical rainfall so far this spring.

I am sorry you guys in the south arnt getting the rain you need. I know how at times I am envious of those that are getting it when I need it. My garden is so important to me. So I am hoping you mud up that dust soon down there.

So do I hope for mud soon, but the weather forecast isn't promising......At this point I'd like rain for the garden but that is the least of my worries......no or very little wheat paycheck is.

Katy-Sorry you are so dry out there. Believe me, I do understand.

We lease our ground out here, and they got the corn in fairly early. We've had nice amounts of rain, and I think they are predicting more tonight or tomorrow. Last year they were unable to get the corn in at all because it was so wet! They ended up going with soybeans later, and had a good crop from that.

Today I'm going to finish enclosing my grow out pen for my chicks, and mow the grass. It's starting to look like the place has been abandoned. Hopefully I will get time later today to go get my tomato plants and some other plants for my little garden.

My grass and flowers are really loving all the chicken poop. I may have to go spread a little more around!

Greetings Sunflower Chickens!

I hope I can be a part of this forum as well. I'm having a hard time keeping up with all the Kansans here on BYC.

I plan on stopping by Ivywood's place tomorrow and pick up some BCM eggies for my recently constructed incubator. She only lives 30 minutes from me.

I've updated my incubator with an egg turner I bought on eBay. I thought it was broken when I plugged it in — only to realize the darn thing moves very, very slow. I had no idea how it worked, since I had not seen one actually doing its thing.

Anyway, my family is quite excited we're finally getting the eggs to put in it. I think they were getting tired of seeing an empty box running for 3 weeks.
Here's a pic of my hatch box with the egg turner upgrade in it. I like the fact that there's plenty of room in there.

(You may notice my homemade water wiggler sitting in the middle. I used a surgical glove partially filled with water and stuck the Spot Check probe in one of the fingers and inverted it. Wally-World didn't have any in stock. I must of looked for a solid hour for that dang thing.)

This will be my virgin hatch in my first homemade incubator. I think some beginner's luck would be appropriate here.

I'll be looking forward to finally meeting you Susie. One of my twins will be coming along with me tomorrow. She's as egg-cited as I am.

It was not who I was expecting. It was one of the barnyard mixes I bought last spring. One of the last starter pullets I will ever buy. Just hatching eggs and chicks for me.

Hope everyone is getting ready to have a great weekend. I am going to weed my garden and clean out the coop this weekend maybe I can get the run done for the new coop.
