Surgery a few days ago, was doing great, now lethargic

:hugs Yes, you do need a hug. You've been truly heroic in all of this. You're getting wonderful advice from very knowledgeable helpers and I don't want to interfere with any of that because I'm nowhere near their level of expertise. However, I can put your mind at ease about the brewer's yeast, it won't do any harm at all as it's a completely inert substance left over from the brewing process and is full of B vitamins. There is a similar product called Nutritional yeast. As far as I know, the difference is mainly in taste, others may know more about it. One is a powder, one's a flake. The flake is delicious on toast and popcorn. 😉 I put the powder (a spoonful) on my dogs' food, they love it.

I second the hug! You continue to go above and beyond for Maybelle. Truth is that she has gone through a major surgery. Recovery is looking slow. I would continue to tube feed until she is off the medication and see if after that she perks up and starts eating on her own. The medication could be leading to decreased appetite and lethargy. Take it one day at a time and think positively, which I know is easier said than done. You must be exhausted at this point and you have the rest of the flock to care for as well.

Hang in there! We are all routing for you and Maybelle!!

Thank you all.
Yes, I need hugs. Truly.
I took her to the vet this morning as a drop off and waiting to hear what they say.
The specialist who do surgery didn't give much info about recovery, even when asked.
I did start her back on the baby bird food and ordered Kaytee Exact handfeeding food, which came today. I feel she's lost weight since the last visit and asked them to please tell me.
I am hoping they won't keep her all day as it's going to be warm out this afternoon and she can actually be outside, her happy place. I'll update when I hear from them.

You're doing great- don't hesitate to ask the vet questions you want answered. They performed the surgery and should be providing recovery info and what to expect in the upcoming day/week. Poke and prod them as if it were for you recovering from a procedure. They owe that to you at least. I am glad you started back on the feed, she will need nutrients first and foremost to fight and get on the road to recovery. It is never easy with animals because you are their voice- again you are doing a great job!!

The vet said she thinks she looks pretty good. She's lost two ounces (down to 4.4) but her fecal sample came back normal. They sent out bloodwork and results should be back by Thursday. If the bloodwork looks good, she may start taking her off antibiotics, which she suspects is causing her not to want to eat on her own. In the meantime, continuing the tube feeding and meds. And worrying. :)
It was warm enough today that she was outside for a few hours! It's been so long since that happened. Here she is with her sisters ...
