RIR- My first chickens(when I was like 5-6). The chicks were cute, so mom and dad got them! Then we got our second one from a friend. I got her since she was very docile

WHite Leghorn- Again first roos, same as RIR

OEGB- Given by a friend(had a pair). They seemed nice. They said they lay yummy eggs too!

OEGB/Cross Free, and they were adorable

Brahma- a banty. and a standard. I started loving the feather footed birds

Silkie Adorable. Lived a very short life...

Serama- Tiny, good for our coops(again lived short lives)

1) My choices were limited by what my chicken lady had available but I ended up with:

1 RIR... I thought everyone was supposed to have one of these. Good producer.

1 Light Brahma... Said to make good pets and she is the easiest to handle.

1 Brown Leghorn...My wife might actually eat the eggs if they are white.

2) As I was crawling through the poop under the coop trying to catch the Brown Leghorn one day, who gets harder to catch every day, I caught myself mumbling "I wanted a Brown Leghorn...."
In all fairness, she is by far the bird with the most personalty, a very pretty bird, and at night will come it and climb on my chest, close her eyes and let me pet her. Just don't try to catch her during the day. I don't have any regrets, I love all of my chickens.

3) There are so many and I can only handle so much poop on the patio. I would like something that laid blue or green eggs just for fun but I'll probably stick with just the 3 birds.

4) No roosters. Period. I wish I had the land to have a rooster but I don't and the egg song in the morning is pushing it with the neighbors enough.

What made you choose a particular breed of chicken? AUSTRALORPS = Good egg laying, hardy winter breed, freindly, Roosters are protective but not agressive. Roosters do not crow a lot. Nice looking bird
SEBRIGHTS. freindly but flighty little bird. High strung , When the entire flock dissappears into the forest the tiny crow that sounds like a wind up toy tells thier general location. These little Roosters crow a lot. I will go out to do certian chores after all have roosted, and often find an australorps hen with a sebright under each wing like they were her babies.

Boy,O cant say any breed we have ever had was a regret, just one chicken in particular If you can picture this scene, we lived in the middle of a country club and we granted right of way to all golf carts through our property. We had Rhode Island reds for quite a while, The hens were some of the most attractive birds we have ever owned and freindly , easy to handle..fantastic egg layers..Cant say enough good about the hens.then there were the roosters. One in particular, This rooster was so aggressive he would go after golfers on thier golf carts , sent children screaming and crying.. We tryed containing him so he wouldnt terrorize the neighborhood. That worked to a point. But to enter his pen, you had to dress yourself as a gladiator complete with garbage can lid sheild just to clean and change bedding. . He would go straight for your face and he didnt care if you were 20 ft tall..We kept The hens and they lived out thier lives with us, We never could figure out why the hens were so wonderful and more than one very aggressive rooster. this rooster was no where near the hens, he would travel long ways to attack you and hens were on other side of barn.

What other breeds do you want to add to your flock?

More good quality Australorps...More different kinds of bantams (husband said no.Just one kind of bantam and only a few ). Would LOVE some cucoo marans (sp) or the other marans the red marans not sure of thier name. the newly developed breed called the cequred.dont know correct spelling

Just that one rooster, you shouldnt have to dress like a gladiator with garbage can lid to clean a rooster pen , especially when hens to protect are nowhere near. Dont keep manfighters no matter how great they are.My husband came very close to loosing an eye to that rooster

I've got Golden Sebrights got them because I thought they were gorgeous and they were one of the only bantam breeds I liked that the hatchery had left. I've got Silkies because I wanted some fluffy mixed in with my flock and I wanted some broodies. Polish because their wicked featherstyle. Modern Game because his long graceful legs he's ultimatly my favorite rooster ever. German Spizhauben because my dad's friend gave her to me really didn't even know they existed just thought she was a mutt hen when I got her. EE's because their so colorful and meant to get some hens to lay blue eggs but ended up with eggless roosters.

Nope, never.

All of them (I wish.) I like the Cucko Marans (however you spell it), and I want EE hens and maybe some Cochin Bantams or I frogot the name to that really really SMALL breed that everyone has with the high tails? Oh and Japanesse Bantams!

Well the Sebright roosters crow louder than any birds I have ever had and they seem more aggressive towards people which I teach them better.

We wanted decent egg layers that were not excessively flighty or aggressive and were relatively winter hardy. I also like the looks of most of the dual purpose breeds in that they have that lovely rounded
soft shape.

No, I don't think so. I researched the breeds we have chosen thus far pretty good before ordering.

What other breeds do you want to add to your flock? Seramas, and blue laced red wyandottes. The Seramas are beautiful and Adorable - the wyandottes for beauty and eggs. Oh, and some sort of breed that lays white eggs but is also lovely to look at - since I don't have any white egg layers yet.
