Swollen foamy eye

Well $160.00 later...vet has no idea and she said Baytril is not for chickens and she said I should try a holistic approach.....that's fine, I will try her eye drops but I am going to continue with the Tylan. She said Uva could join her sisters, what difference does it make now. I think I will keep her in the house until I run out of Tylan or she improves. I am at a loss.....

Thanks for the link, just ordered! I will let you all know how it goes.

You have to make sure Uva drinks the medicated water. Usually, sick birds wont drink and if they do, they wont drink enough to be effective. If she is drinking and swallowing normally, no problem. But if she isnt drinking normally, you might have to use an eyedropper to give her the treated water often to be effective.

She is eating, drinking and still giving us an egg a day! She has never acted sick if you know what I mean. That's why this has been so difficult, she has no other symptoms. Her color is great she is active no sneezing or discharge from her nose and her eye is not swollen shut. I am hoping the new meds will do the trick! Team Uva!!!

Stop the tylan, it's not working. Try giving her sulfadimethoxine. Dosage is 1 teaspoon per gallon of water for 4 days. Make a fresh batch each day and dont add anything else to the mixture. There's a 5 day egg withdrawal period after the last dosing. Toss the eggs in the garbage.

X2 on the Sulfadimethoxine. I'm dealing with the same symptom with my Light Brahmas, except they are only about 10 weeks old. I'll be calling local feed stores tomorrow to try an get my hands on some.

You should only use this antibiotic for 5 days max.

Just a note: the 5 day withdrawl is for meat. I have not yet found anything concrete regarding egg withdrawl. This chart here https://sites.google.com/a/poultrypedia.com/poultrypedia/medicine-chart actually says to NOT give this to fowl over 16 weeks old, but I have heard of others using it on egg layers successfully. You might want to wait longer than 5 days before eating the eggs though, just to be safe.

Here's another site too: http://www.drugs.com/vet/sulfadimethoxine-oral-solution.html

Keep us posted on your progress. I'll let you know how mine do.

Sulfadimethoxine arrived last night!! I will let you know how it goes ;} How are your girls doing?

After just 1 dose of the Sulfadimethoxine, the brahma's swelling was gone, and there was only a little fluid in her eye. I gave them all 2 more doses, and then stopped. It's been almost a week since I gave them the first dose, and so far they all look great! No more symptoms.

Hope it works for your flock!!

This is Uva last night. I think she looks better but I am hoping the Sulfadimethoxine will do the trick! So happy to hear your girls are doing well.
