The hunting/fishing thread!

Forgot to ask, what you planning to do with the meat? Jerky, smoking?
50 lbs got ground, 14 lbs pressure canned in stew sized chunks, the backstraps were filleted off and cut 1" thick for grilling, the loins were frozen whole, and I took 30lbs to the butcher. They'll add 20lbs of pork to that for a total of 50lbs. Half of that will be pepperettes, and half pepperoni. :drool (The backstraps and loins together weighed 12lbs).

I've walked our property and the one across the road where I shot the buck, and there is plenty of activity. It's killing me to stay home with a tag in my pocket.

Rifle season opens here tomorrow……we ran to the range last Thursday to check our scopes. I thought I had 1-2 boxes of ammo put away for season but I was wrong :th there has been a shortage of our ammo but I’ve always managed to find some. I ended up calling nearly every store within 50 miles on indiana side and a couple in Louisville. We finally purchased last box of 240gr from 1 local shop and ran back to the range to reset scopes. After we finished at the range, I was lucky enough to grab last box of hornady 240gr at a store north of the range. We almost had to call it a season before it even started :th i think we may look to add a different caliber rifle next year just in case this shortage continues

Have you thought about reloading the brass? I'm not sure if there's a shortage of reloading supplies or not.

I support the idea of buying more rifles. Lots more fun than taking the year to find more ammo. ;)
I found a Winchester '94 in a pawn shop years ago. It was ugly as homemade sin but was only $200. I mentioned it to DW and I said it was a shame it was a .30-30 as I didn't have anything that caliber. Her reply was "Then you ought to get one." Great logic. (Gawd I Love that woman!)
BTW, when I cleaned the gunk off the rifle the wood and patina was BEAUTIFUL. I think it's the prettiest rifle I own.

there is a shortage of reloading supplies here in Canada, not sure about you guys state side.

also we have shortages of certain ammo here. my dad went looking for some 30-06 shells all he could find was 150 gr he likes that size for white tail and mule deer. but he told me think it was 180 gr he likes for elk, as we are going in December for elk. could not find any.

200 bucks for a Winchester 94! that seems like a steal to me lol.

up here they seem to be like 800 for one in fair condition.

Sounds like a good reason to buy another gun. ;) What caliber do you shoot?

I learned my lesson during the Obama years. That's when I started reloading and building a stockpile. My biggest score was the Nov-Dec before covid hit. Walmart decided to quit selling handgun and "assault" rifle ammunition. They marked it all 30-50% off. I literally went to every Walmart within 40 miles of my house and cleaned them out. Little did I know there would be another ammo shortage from covid in a few more months. Wish I would've went further and hit some more stores.

Merry Christmas, lol....

Had this little guy come walking in this morning.
Ended up downwind, but couldn't quite figure out what was wrong. Eventually came underneath me.
Bad me was screaming in my left ear. Backstraps, burger.. while good me was in my right ear... Grandpa is out here somewhere. Good me one.

Considered it but same not sure what supplies are there either and not sure if worth the investment of time, $, and storage space for the amount we use. I just have to be more diligent in stocking up before last minute. Seems like the older we get, the faster time goes :th
