The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Technically, since there is no official registry, as long as the bird fits type and breeds true can't it be classified as one thing or another. I mean if it walks, clucks, and produces like an EO isn't it an EO? Taking this back to the just because you bred it from such and such stock, if you don't cull right you get inferior birds. Can't the flip be true? It may be a longer row to hoe, but it could technically be done. Obviously William Cook managed to do it. I think the technicality of where they came from is secondary to who breeds them and what is produced.

I am just a newbie so please don't ream me to hard if there is something I am missing. Thanks!
some have a different view I guess, I breed dogs and horses, and in my book my chickens are to be bred the same. a bloodline and pedigree is important to me, not to others, I do not cross other breeds into mine and then say its purebred just because it looks like one, it takes quite a few generations of breeding back to purebred before its considered purebred again. My point was, people who cross breeds, then call them whichever breed it most resembles, thats dishonest in my book. call them what they are, someone will buy them., not me, but someone will. and if you sell me one and I figure out what you did.... creating a new color or breed takes time, so that is why they are called projects, and I admire those that say nope these are projects so not selling as purebred yet. I appreciate that kind of breeder.

Some of my black roosters have black in their combs. Is this something I should cull (get rid of, not kill... I felt guilty writing that) them for?

He is one of my biggest Roos. He is not chocolate- just dusty black. I live in a desert... I'm always jealous of all your guys "green" pictures.

I can agree with that thought process. Thank you for a clear view of it.

Another NPIP inspection behind me..it was FREEZING yesterday morning.. we looked like we were on an everest expidition..it did warm up in the afternoon....The inspector is so nice and funny.....lots of laughs..

moved a couple pens out into the sun where it was a little warmer..feels like we are going to go from winter back into winter this year..

I was trying to get a decent picture of the beautiful color and lacing on this Roger baby...She will be a well cared for show bird..with lots of pasture .. its hard to get a pic of just that wonderful color and lacing they move so fast..she loves the soft grass...

My standard black with english blue rooster, they were raised together and just get along..the black is so beautiful in person..

Not a great pose but the big blue rooster..standard black hen..he is scared to death of her..you have to witness it to beleive it..she just looks at him and he runs..he has his new leg tag from inspection..

If I liked them I would hold off because it can be the case of the mulberry face, in other words he will most likely grow out of it, I have a lot of pullets with that but they grow out of it & get nice & red.
