The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Sad this evening. My husband is finally calling it and putting down one of my gold laced orpington hens. She's been unable to lay for I dont know how long. She tries to lay and the egg breaks inside her and the egg innards sowly just leak out. Then the shell less membrane would come out a little and I would just pull it out the rest of the way. She's been slowly getting sicker and sicker. Today she spent allllll day in the nest and was almost dead when I got her out. I've been trying everything. Oyster shell, and all that stuff and no improvement. Poor girl

It's always hard to lose them. So sorry for your loss.
I leave crushed eggshells out at all times for my girls and they seem to prefer it over oyster shells. Whenever I boil eggs I always keep the shell for them.
Again, so sorry you lost your girl.

@French Hen From top down, I *think* you have:

Pullet
Cockerel
Cockerel
Pullet

But the photos aren't very close up of the heads, and it's hard to see whether or not there are wattles except maybe the first two photos (where I see none, then am pretty sure I see some).

If you could take closer-up photos of the chicks' heads in profile, we could all probably make better guesses.

I've posted photos of older chicks and had most people guess wrong! Posted five chicks, and most said all were cockerels. Fortunately, it was not that grim. I thought I had at least one pullet, and it turns out I had two (one just very rooish looking in the face).

Hi everyone, it's been a while since I posted on here!
Been very busy lately but I thought I would share pictures of one of my projects. These are Silver Partridge AKA Double Silver Laced Orpingtons.
I've had this variety since 2012 and am working on my 3rd generation now.
This hasn't been an easy color to perfect, but the birds are coming along nicely I think!

Thank you, that's a good idea to feed them the shells. I'll have to start crushing them :)
