The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

And I've decided to name the little girl (let's hope) that hasn't feathered out except those white wings....Her name is Winnie, after all the eggs were from Wynette! All my girls names are names from the 40's and 50's so it fits perfectly

I don't normally name them this young, but maybe with a girlie name she'll decide to be a girl!!

Okay, now I'm confused. I thought you got those eggs from Sandy???? If not and you got them from Wynette, are they Orpingtons?

OK WAIT I"M AN IDIOT - I'm confused because I also hatched Wynettes SSPR with them....

SCRATCH (pun intended) what I said....YES these are Sandy's hatch...argh I'm losing it (having 40+ chicken people over for Mad City Chicken movie night tomorrow night)

So let's see a name for my little one...SANDY it's perfect!

Cheryl - all the eggs are fertilized by Winston, who is a 100% English Blue Orpington roo. The eggs are from a mix of US Orpington hens and 50% English hens. The chicks you hatch will be a mix of 50% and 75% English. There are some "torpedo" eggs in there - those come from Matilda and she is 50% English. If you hatch any chicks from them, they will be 75% English. And YES - torpedo eggs DO hatch. Some people say they never hatch - well, I'm here to tell you that they DO hatch. Two of the chicks that I just hatched and shipped to Germaine hatched from Matilda's "torpedo" eggs.

AWESOME, all the eggs are huge and gorgeous - they are bigger than most of my hens eggs even the welsummer

I have to show you guys what happened when I didn't think my young blue roo was being very "accurate". He has only known that he was a roo since August and my pullet only started to lay in August. She layed for 2 weeks then went broody. I couldn't find her for a couple days then I spotted her, on 13 eggs! We moved her to a small broody box and there she sat for 2 weeks, I still didn't think anything of it until this past tuesday and this is what we have now, 5 of the cutest little speckled sussex/orp crosses. Blue is apparently a dominant color. She is the best little mom. I'm hoping they feather out as blue with white spots, all of them have white edges on their wings. The pictures are 1 and 2 days old.

They are adorable. Can't wait to see how they grow up. Your little hen looks sweet as can be. If I were going to get another breed of chickens, I think it would be Speckled Sussex.

These are my first two speckled sussex hen's and both are sweet as can be. They actually are sweeter then my orpington's. Now this could just be their particular personality but they have sold me on the breed. So I guess I have to work on a blue sussex or a speckled orpington!
