The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

wonderful birds reidinger..love your whites..

here are some baby EOs they are that embarrassed to be seen stage ..... the frame on these babies is wonderful. nice straight toes.
it was very cold last week that they would come outside for a few minutes , then run right back into the heated area..it was 43 degrees one night..2 days of hot and now very cool again.cant wait till they get thier feathers. very odd weather..mostly cool here..

blk orp hen doing what she does..just enjoy herself lounging after munching some grass..she still has rooster damage. last year one of the cockerals grabbed her comb and broke a point off..so learned AI for next year. ...she does have wonderful width to the feathers..she is close to a molt.
+

this is growler the pullet..they had a scare one day when a fox was running the back of the fence line..every time she comes out now her head feathers stand straight up and she growls..she did not forget that incident..you can see shes a little skittish about going out there. and shes eyeing the area we saw the fox..

Thanks, I appreciate that.

The seller I got the chicks from is willing to help me out in replacing them. That is really good news. And I should be getting three more chocolate chicks and some b/b chicks in a couple weeks. Hopeful for those!

Morning, again I am really sorry about your babies. As far as how often they lay some of ours are excellent layers (lavenders and Lemon Cuckoos) Laying probably 5-6 eggs a week. The English BBS, and Jubilees not so much and much later in laying (and seem to be more broody) maybe 3-4 a week. Our Chocolates are not laying quite yet so I couldn't tell you on those. These are my birds and don't necessarily represent the 'norm'.

Good Luck!

I just wanted to make a suggestion on the new babies. I would ask your breeder if he vaccinates for Marek's (probably not what they died from as they were too young) or Coccidia. I vaccinate for both and on the more fragile breeds or more susceptible breeds in general (imports in particular) it is a life saver but must be done at a day old. The vaccine is CoccivacD (new one is coming out in September CoccivacD2).
Good Luck,
Nellie
