The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Have you ever had any like I have .... that are slower to mature? I was beginning to think I could start a line of Bantam English Orps .... but now they are catching up. I have 3 late bloomers.

All Orps are English. I think you mean this thread is for imported orps. If so, the title should be corrected so there's no confusion.

Donnie, it is normal for black birds to have white feathers during juvenile development.

Hey Kathy, I have had a few like that. I never keep them for breeding as I am breeding for size. They are pretty though. When I hatched a group out of Big Johns pen, out of 20 chicks I only kept the four biggest pullets at 10 weeks. Didn't keep any cockerels though I may be sorry about that. I just didn't have room to house anymore. I am very pleased with the size of my girls. I had a lady drive down about a 12 hr drive one way and buy the rest of the pullets and some other birds i was selling. I haven't heard from her again but just wonder how the others turned out. There were some nice ones.

I took a few pics of the young Big John girls and thought I would share. Also a few others.
Here is a pic of LJ She just went through a molt and still has a few old dull feathers to lose. She always looks like her head is sitting in the middle of her body. she is such a pet. Not very big though . she is my exception to keeping a smaller one. Her fluff makes up for it.

She is the blue one. sorry for the bare butt in the backgroud. That hen just started a severe molt. Hope she gets some feathers before it gets cold around here.

the black pullet in the background is just barely five months She is as tall as a very large blue hen standing by her.

Here is probably my favorite of the group. she is a round butterball. Big too. I want to set a photo spot so I can get good pics like my friend in England gets of his. This pic does'nt do her justice

I may try and get some updated pics of Hoss. He is my blue cockerel from Joy's Winston/Minerva. He was leggy for so long but now His fluff is really dropping down. My husband loves that bird and says we can not sell him.

Hey Cheryl. she is just barely 5 months old. They hit a growth spurt and everyday they all seem to be growing. I think the cooler weather has helped. Unfortunately today we are warming up to 90. It has been in the 40's at nite last week. Loved it.

Julie, those birds are to fluffy to believe! They're just so round.
