Jeremy are you interested in working on a Buff Laced (without the black specks)?
That's funny, I did a search on Calico and their are Calico Cochins - very similar.......![]()
Great!! I am actually working on a Mauve bantam Orp project now. I love that color.Nellie, I don't think so, mostly due to the constraints put on me by living in the city... I think I have (finally) decided to continue to work with the BBS, as I feel I have a nice flock of birds right now as well as (with hopeful help from you) large fowl Chocolates. I thought I had settled on Mottled but the Chocolate gene is so fascinating IMO. Being able to sell sexed day old chicks to other urban farmers here in the city is a big plus, most people here don't want roosters. I also feel that the Choc gene plays well with BBS, meaning that I can keep all of the colors together in one flock, as long as I maintain records as to what roosters recessively carry the Choc gene. To top it all off you get Mauve when you combine the Blue and Chocolate genes! Just seems to make sense.![]()
Thank you all, I think they are kind of a tri-color. But they are very pretty.....Kinda dainty looking![]()
2011 was a good year hatching for me. I hope I have a good one this year. Sometimes I wish i had some of these back. This is pic I took 2011![]()

When Calico was mentioned this was my first though too.
Calico Cochins are a "byproduct" of the Mille Fleur Cochin project. From what I understand they're the birds that didn't conform to the Mille Fleur standards but still bred somewhat true to color. Most birds show similar red/brown, black and white patterns. So they're similar in phenotype but a different genetic makeup. Mille Fleur and Calico Cochins would be more closely "related" to Jubilee and Mottled Orps.
