I just installed nesting boxes on my Orp coop, I too was hesitant to use "normal" sized boxes at first. After I put one if my large black pullets inside of one my fears were calmed, she fit just fine.

Speaking of nesting... one of my blue pullets did the egg squat for me yesterday!!!!!

My girls just looked way to big to go in a 12 inch by 12 inch nest box. I was worried they would damage their plumage... Sooo I had larger boxes made for them.

I was hoping you'd check in! I'm so happy with them, I just love them to pieces. So, let's see, about 3 more months to wait for eggs?

Good to know they can "squeeze" into a normal nesting box. These are my nesting boxes. The ones on the bottom are 12 inches wide and deep, the RIR, buttercup and welsummer love them. The ones on the top are 18 inches wide, and one of my BCM's likes the left one. So I imagine the Orps will use those as well. Not like it's any big hurry, I have about 3 more months of waiting for any eggs from them.
