So it seems like quite a few of you in this thread have received shipped birds. I have about a month until my ducklings are shipped from Metzer Farms (California) to me (Illinois). I am trying to make sure I have anything I may need for shipping stress or a sick baby. I have nutridrench and save a chick electrolytes so far... any other recommendations? The farm stores around here are pretty limited so I’m most likely going to need to order off amazon so I want to give myself enough time to get it all before arrival.

You might want to add a small package of Grogel to your order with Metzer (they can put it in the box with the ducklings). I like to put it on top their feed the first day. They'll ship with it in cups in the box so they recognize it when they see it as food. What do you have for your starter? Their Poult vitamin/mineral pack is also good for day 2 and beyond. Compare it to what you already have. Have your brooder setup and at the right temp the day before they arrive.

I hatched babies last year so I have duck starter, brewers yeast, chick grit, heating plate, 20 different totes and kiddie pools for the brooder and all the types of bedding. Just want to make sure I have any possible boosters or medicines I could possibly need before I get myself into a situation.

I'm sure it would have been more entertaining filming myself as a mad man running through the rain because I thought someone was attacking the ducks... but they just wanted to be let out so they could play in the rain.

The cougars (cayugas but kids call them cougars its easy to say) haven't quite worked out walking through the gate. They sort of just run everywhere and don't notice the other ducks aren't following

were you running to find the madman attacking the dux and pay him to attack them longer?

When you get them, the cups in the box will be empty. They'll finish off the grogel in no time. I like to use it to start all of my birds, and when I ship day olds, I use it and a cucumber in the box. But grogel is only for shipping and the first day. I also really like the poult vitamin/mineral mix as well better than most feed store options. Last time I ordered from them, they just put those two items under the mat in the box.

Ive used nutridrench with all mine including the ones I hatched but there’s lots of different options. I’ve heard rooster booster is good too

I'm going to put Olly down. It was an extremely hard to come down to but these past 3 days everything went downhill, he somehow hurt his other leg, his wings are all bruised, and he isn't bothering to near the food or water. I put the water in front of him and he drank for 7 minutes straight. Though I hate to do this, I think it's best. He was my friendliest duck, and loved everyone. He'll be put down tomorrow. I just don't want to watch him suffer anymore
