I have threatened my gander many time with the roasting pan. He is still here 12 yrs later. But any extra roosters have to get the stew pot too many and the flock is way out of whack.

I am a bit squeamish to be honest... I do want to be more self sufficient though. One of the farmers I got some birds from made a good point to me one day. "Hehe, you'r not doing a very good job homesteading if your not eating what you raise."
Killing an animals for food or safety does not bother me. Killing an animal I raised that is doing me no harm is my issue.

That is mainly where I hope to get my meat from.

It’s the only ones we have, we haven’t ever processed any of our hens. After they finish laying they stay till they die they gave us years of fresh eggs we give them retirement.
