Thanks for the picture, Bob.
Yeah, so I doubt I'll get any RIW. I don't know where she gets them from. I'd never be able to tell good quality but bad quality. I'd be to stuck just thinking they're all cute.
with RIW you don't know what you've got until they grow out. I don't select breed stock until 24 weeks at the earliest.

The local feed store is supposed to get in more Silver Gray Dorking pullets, but they are not sure what day yet. I would prefer to have a few more of those. I don't want the O Shamo to be alone in the mean time though.

So an update on the blind chick. I just watched it eat and drink! Maybe it's not completely blind. It was not exactly graceful, but it did get both food and water in it's system. If it has a fighting chance, I'll let it live, but I don't want to live a life of suffering. Only problem with that call is I don't won't know if it's actually suffering...

I just watched it take 3 back to back drinks...

Its eating too! I'll be honest, I'm surprised it's even alive. The water has nutri-drench in it. I put the food on a plate to make it easy to find. Maybe feel the difference in textures where it strands or something.

Hopefully it can keep going on its own. I'm okay with having a special chicken as long as it's needs are reasonable. I was going to kill it this morning, but I'll give it some more time. It's a thin line between keeping it around because it can live a happy life and keeping it around because it's life makes me happy. We'll see what happens.

Chris, These are day olds and they don't look a lot different at a week old. I think it would be difficult to tell the difference between them and the white leghorn other than ear color.

Idk what kind of leghorns you’ve been seeing, but the white ones are PURE YELLOW as babies. Those RIW in your pick look to have a red tinge.
