Well, in good news, the runner duck egg seller apologized and has sent more eggs. Claims they don't have a broody and said it might just be the heat down south - but that would mean that the eggs sat uncollected for at least two weeks...also not good, lol.

Oh well, hopefully there won't be issues with the replacement eggs.

Never did get more eggs from the mallard egg seller. He said he would send some if I paid shipping, I agreed, emailed him several times to get him to send me an invoice for shipping annndd nothing. Guess I'll just have to try to find a different seller and buy more, because I only hatched one duckling, sigh.
That is just a protective claim…

I take great pride in candling each egg in the paper-tray before setting it down in the cooler for delivery to the supermarket. I don't have to, but i just do it. Quick tap with the flashlight to see if the egg is clear, 30 eggs in 15 seconds.
Things like sending out a "black" egg shouldn't happen. Sloppy!

Actually, there are no Muscovy Ducks on the Craigslist for Charleston WV at the moment. The problem with sellers on CL is, that they also sell only unsexed ducklings. And i have been very unlucky with the 50% male/female ratio in the past. With Mallard derived ducks this is manageable, somehow, but with the Muscovy drakes being the size of a schoolbus… 😜
So funny that you should say that as I have told my kids on my bus that I could ride Oscar, my 15 pound Muscovy to the bus garage because he had gotten so big. lol He has been rehomed and when I looked on our Craigslist all of the adult listings were gone. A few weeks ago there were several both male and female adults and now none just ducklings. Sorry you can't find any.

The disgust of having eaten something disgusting alone can have adverse effects on our digestive system.
He ate it by mistake. Granddaughter asked him if he wanted to see her pet slug Rosie, He had bad hearing and thought she was giving him something to eat and put it in his mouth and just swallowed it. She cried forever because Rosie was gone.

Which (imho) should put the call-duck in an advantage, as it is able to fly away from a ground based predator. (?)
Yes I have heard that they can fly pretty well since they are small. I clipped my 4 little boy drakes as soon as I got them so that they would not leave. Now I am watching for them to molt so that I will do it again as I will not trust them not to fly away.
