The Quack Shack

do you only spray eggs to humidify them when they’re in an incubator?? My duck eggs are under a broody chocolate Orpington hen. Will she keep them humid enough?
My Mauve Orpington hatched a Runner duckling without any trouble.

I have always sprayed from day 10 till lockdown
I have really high hatch rates
90-100%
Only time I got bad ones was when my bator messed up and spiked to 110 and cooler to 86 a few times
Company sent me new parts for it
I don’t spray in the bator
I pull the eggs out spray lightly
I don’t soak them
Cool for 10 mins then put them back. I don’t spray in my bator as I don’t like the high humidity spikes from it
I think of how mom does it
She goes in the pool and runs back and sits on her eggs
They get wet from moms belly
Maybe this helps soften the shell for hatching

I think they should be fine, even under a hen. :)
