While sitting here looking at Japanese longtails, :caf I realized I've got a taste for the weird. I don't mean trendy eye candy breeds, it's probably obvious I like them. :) First thing that came to mind was the name and slogan of my new security firm. "Raptors; Filling your primal security needs. Est. 0001" because I could imagine people wanting to just run from these.

Dang Tao Chicken!

Even with some frilly lettuce they look scary!

If you sitting there wondering "Chris, would you actually raise miniature mutant dinosaurs?"
I'd just let my smile answer that question.

:thumbsup

Dem legs tho! :th

So I was reading about Olive Eggers, and found some breeding charts for egg color. From what I saw, it looks like some of my eggs I got from the local farm will likely hatch to Easter Eggers. There are 2 Black Maran eggs, 1 Ameraucana egg, 1 Olive Egger speckled egg (pretty dark assuming f2), 1 creamy pink'sh eggs, 1 "coffee & cream" egg and 2 "coffee & cream, extra cream" eggs. I figured most of us know what coffee and cream looks like. ;) Not clue what roo is what father, but Ameraucana and Maran hens are purebred. Leading me to believe I'm going to have some potentially colorful eggs later on. :D
(I still have pure Ameraucana eggs coming too)

Now I know what I said about bantams, but I got 2 eggs anyways. I don't know why! Oh yeah, because they where cute and I have a weakness for cute things! Actually I got them for the off chance the little roo I saw outside was the father. He was an "unauthorized hatch" mutt, maybe 12-14" tall and had similar colors to a red gold head pheasant, just a darker shade. The gold was more of a dark but very bold yellow with what looked like black quills. He has a gold top, dark teal saddle, deep red breast with a jet black tail. He also has large red earlobes, single comb, and the tint was "night on the town " red lipstick, very striking with his plumage. It was a naive decision, impulse at it's best, but for the chance to get something as beautiful as him... pffft I'll embrace naivety and impulse over 2 eggs.

I think you need more coops!:lau
Yeah.... I haven't kept my tally of birds current here though... I no longer have any of the barnyard bantams. :hit

I was down to only 4,and the guy who was supposed to take jerkface finally called me back. I offered him the bunch and he took them off my hands. (I lied, had 5, I forgot to give him the tiny one inside, oops!)

Now I just need to find the Silkies a home. I had high hopes for them, but I think docile is a bad description for them. More like fluffy lump on a log... That or their "show quality" is just so inbreed their... I don't know, stupid. Cute does only get you so far in my house, gotta bring something interesting with you.

The last guinea needs to go too, though I don't really want to let it go. I have enjoyed them, but it looks miserable being the only one. Kind of like it's looking for it's flock, all day long. I don't know, just don't feel right to keep it, and I am not dealing with keets again at this time.

That will leave me with 2 Ayam Cemani, 3 Seramas, 1 Pyncheon/Serama, 1 Tiny Barnyad bantam. Then 24 hatching eggs with 1/2 being shipped in and the other half being ~8 days old by hatch start... If I get 50% hatch with shipping, the weather, and my general newness to hatching, I'll be happy I guess...Although the O Shamo where not cheap, maybe 100% on those and 50% on the rest... That'd make me happy. :gig

I'mma makin room!
:wee

As we know, my willpower meter is not always reading correct. I am trying to be somewhat realistic, even responsible about it though. Now if you could talk my wife in to letting me have more coops.
:ya
Then I could get to some serious bird collecting!
