They are seasonal layers yes. I think they say somewhere around 80 eggs a year. Mine lay more than that I think. They have started laying again already but will take a break mid season.. Pick up again in the fall and lay until winter.Awww calls are the cutest! But all my birds have to have a "job". From what I've read they are poor layers, but what do you think? also they are too small to feed my family![]()
Yup.Let me remind you, people eat quail. And I'm pretty sure those delicious looking bacon wrapped duck breast where calls too. What about being cute? That's a hard enough job!![]()
More meat than a quail for sure.
Only one in that pic was a call duck. .the others were shoveler duck. But about the same size really.
And most of the eggs are the size of a Batntam chicken egg. So they can still have a job as far as that goes.
But if you choose to breed to standard you may find the actual bird worth more to sell than to eat.
