Does anybody offhand know if green beetleing is a sign of tricolor in Ancona ducks? I've got at least two that I can clearly see it on. It's so pretty.

Morning Folks :frow

@rjohns39 What would you say, of the turkeys you raise, is the nicest breed? In regards to being a pet. ;) Not really concerned with the taste. :D
(I don't like to eat turkey, and request just about anything else on T-day)

Well Chris, to be concise there's only one breed — Turkey. The rest are just color varieties. The sweetest and most docile have a much shorter life span and need special feeding and handling to keep them longer term. Those are the Broad Breasted varieties meant to be harvested at 14 weeks. Anything heritage can have a much longer life and can be extremely friendly. The more they are handled and get into their routine the more like dogs they become. @memphis and @Auroradream26 both have birds that routinely play with neighbors and kids. Ladies, Chris needs to see some of your kid pics with the girls. So that said, it's all about eye candy as to what you choose. Oh and btw, if you harvest a grass fed heritage turkey at 24 weeks, you'll be amazed at the flavor.

@rjohns39 is right. Pick a color you like and go with it! If you can hatch them on your own and hand raised them it works better but raining poults from a young age works too :) Ok, kid/people and turkey pics requested!

This is Romeo. Yes, he's wearing a harness and leash. No, he'd never worn one before this. He had a blast going to the local park to meet the girl scouts around Thanksgiving! He was nervous until they showed up, then it was all about the love!

Cuddles used to demand hugs every night before bed. Usually, from me but anyone would work. Picture is DS with her. She was the sweetest girl ever. I miss her terribly

Lapper training in progress. She missed at first... Second picture, she's snuggled in.

As many breeds are there are among just about any other species, that kinda blows my mind. Here I was thinking people on CL didn't know how to advertise turkeys. Oops!

Thanks for tagging in Team Turkey! When I met the tom named Tom, I thought he was a rarity. He was just like a dog, extremely sweet, and gentle.

The only other turkeys I've met where wild, and that tom chased me. Here I am try to show him and his 5 ladies some love. (yup, I had no clue they where THAT protective) That turkey chased me for about an 1/8 mile... Thought about eating him... I couldn't actually kill it though. I do better at sounding tough than actually being tough Lol...
