It's bonkers, eh?Does it really say sunset at 1:41 PM or am I seeing things?
That seems really early for the sun to be setting. Here where I'm at it says sunset is at 4:18 PM.
I understand that the time the sun sets is different in different places, but you're only in Minnesota, I didn't think it would be that different.
Hmmm... Interesting..![]()
Morning Everyone.
Good Morning Everyone!!
Good morning folks![]()
Morning. Good day so far, chickens learned how to get into the duck coop. They're so curious towards the ducks

It's pretty mutual here too. They do just about everything together but swim. It's almost like one tribe with two flocks. Sully (cockerel) is King of the Yard, and Big Momma (Pekin) is Queen of the Quacks, and collectively they keep everyone in line. Sully and Big Momma get along great, and I've never seen them have a fued. It was the Same thing with Umbra (AC cock) before Sully got here.Mine share everything including nest boxes.
Looks good Misty.Mostly, I still need to hook up my de-icer for the stock tank so it does not freeze. I am looking to get another bigger one and attach a drain like the current one. Then I don't worry about dumping water on the ground and breaking my arm again. It gets so slick. Last year I spent 6 weeks with a full arm cast and that was not fun or attractive. LOL. We just trimmed and took down some trees so I have a huge pile of wood chips behind the run that I need to spread out inside and outside of the run to keep it from being too muddy. We have been drizzling rain for about 2 days now with some ugly stuff on the way.
Keep food an water outside. That will help a whole bunch. As for bedding I like pine shavings the bedding for horses since it’s thicker. I use a good thick amount inside so daily I just scoop up the wet shavings fluff and good to go. I usually put more shavings inside 3-4 weeks.
Me too. It's much better than having them inside. This is exactly what I do. They are pooping machines
What I did was lured them in and out of the Shack door every morning and night. The first few days I had to keep the food in view so they'ed follow me, and give them a full portion of food. Then I would just show them the food and walk in the shack, and give the a treat portion. After about a week they just started going in on their own with out any food, and that's when I removed the water too. It's cut down on the mess/work a ton. Also, the deep litter is the way to go in my opinion. Patti, and Misty have been using it longer than I, and are part of the reason I do it too. That and it works.Alright, I normally lure the ducks in with food if they don't go in at night, normally the muscovies wait for me to come up with food that's why I leave water in there.. how do I break their habit?
That's pretty funny. My smallest of the 2 flocks are the leadersMallard leads around the scovies and pekins, My tiny bantam cockerel leads around the other chickens
