I think you'll be fine Kendra, but it's probably good to get treatment going asap. Until either Patti or Kathy can chime in, I would just continue with the soaking, and removal of the scab. You're going to need to seem how bad the plug/infection is regardless. Then wrap the foot in a vinegar soak wrap for 2-3 hours. Though like Ralphie mentioned, you don't want to leave it wrapped and wet at all times.

Maybe Soak > wrap wet 2hrs > wrap dry with the 3x antibiotic cream and keep his movement restricted. I'm sure one of the more experienced ladies will be around soon.

In regards to vinegar, it's great for a lot of things including cleaning and as an antiseptic. It's recommended as a bleach alternative for people on septic systems. It's been used in field medicine during times of war. It's said to be able to kill salmonella and E. coli and other nasty things. It's really good stuff, but I look at it more of a part of a good solution, not the solution itself.

Alright, do you happen to know what the scab will look like when it's ready to come off?

I've never dealt with it. I've had many of scabs myself though, get wet in the shower. My guess is it'll get 2-3x the size, maybe slimy, likely gross looking. Peeling around the edges maybe, easy to move.

Kendra, This is most likely what you'll find under the scab.
