Well, I went to go see Sandra, the lady with the eggs. She is getting out of breeding purebred Eng Orps, and going for large framed designer birds using Eng Orps, Cochins, and Brahmas. She is selling her jubilee Eng Orp roosters, and for what they are worth. They're not cheap, but they are great quality.

We have similar taste in birds, and she's knows I appreciate the work she's put in to breeding. So she offered one of the roosters for a such a good price she asked me not to repeat it. She aslo offered to refer people to me later to acquire chicks...

I didn't buy him. I really want to though. I'm considering building a pin attached to the shack with a door to connect it, and making a breeding pin.

Until now my sexlink plan relys on Sully simply being the main stud of the flock. If I where to attempt any purebred breeding though, I'd have to have a separate pin.

Oh the wheels are turning.

@shawluvsbirds this one's for you.
Too cute! I might be able to pull that off without kicking a dux. :lau
I like that song too.
Used to have a stereo/CD player with a programmable alarm. Had to find something wild to wake me up at 4 in the morning. That one will do it. I bet my neighbors hated me for that. :lau

Hey all...

A good day today, no dux anywhere around!!

@Trimurtisan your numbers are enticing, but I am betting wrong.

Breeding to standards is a lot of work. I do not know Florida’s laws but here NPIP is a must to sell through a dealer.

NPIP is a lot of work. I tested every three months, had a couple inspections a year and needed meticulous breeding and sales records. Not including hatcher debris which I was required to keep or send in for testing.

I sold birds or eggs in 40+ states, each has its own requirements.

I was hatching a couple thousand chicks a year. I never made any money.

Unless, you can do enormous volumes you can’t make money.

Most chick buyers want the cheapest chicks they can find through the dealers. The only chicks that made money were the white legbars when they were rare and I was one of the few breeders with them. Now they even lose money..

but good luck on your venture. Just thought I would tell you how mine was.

The things that go bad are too numerous to list.. and buyers are bellybuttons.
