The first day of the year has dawned bright and clear. It is comfortably warm, and not too hot yet. My "to do" list includes some gardening, and making a chick-safe area around a mother duck. When she went broody, the only fertile eggs I had on hand were some chicken eggs I had been given for eating. She rejected some of the eggs, but had three left the last time she let me look. Hatch day should be the third. I've never had a duck hatch chicks before, so that will be something new for 2020.

Who else knows that they will be doing something new in the new year?
