We walked down to the river yesterday afternoon it's looking so good up and running. When it over flows its at night so we missed that. Our river comes from Mt Mitchell which has an elevation of over 6000' so you can imagine what the river looks like when we get a huge amount of rain. Cleans it out real good. lol
That's awesome! I know the last picture you posted of it was pretty darn low, almost dry.

Morning everyone. Something got one of my leghorns, killed it, leaving a huge mouthful of feathers behind, poor girl.
My dad was angry, I have a lot of chickens, and 5 are laying right now so I could just hatch more in spring. They're on his property so I guess it's a fair reason. But, he is dedicated to catching whatever did it. It ripped a mouthful of feathers and happened in the day.

Aww sorry about your leg horn. Winter is hard on predators since their natural prey is in hiding so they are going to really go after our birds. Maybe y’all can keep them penned but then only a fully enclosed pen would work. Those of us that free range, mine do it inside fenced property always have this worry and really isn’t a whole lot we can do about it. :( I’ve lost a few chickens to hawks and it isn’t something I ever get over. :hugs

Thank you. My chickens have been hiding in the bushes. It's a smart hiding spot, since the creek is below it, sometimes they fly across it. They can also get high into the branches. I don't have a pen for them, only the chicks, but they're in a chicken coop and the run is small, only fit for 8 chickens, which is how much their is in that coop. My land is fenced up but only with stone.

Yes it is so nice when the river is running. Chris I hope your new thread gets a lot of attention. It is really nice to have a place where no one is judged for how they feel or believe. It think that is why many are drawn here.
Thank you. All I did was pick a catchy title for the thread though. The openness and and level of acceptance is a community effort though. Without the great fills that do follow along I'd just be sitting here going quackers by myself. ;)
