As far as giving up? well Missy only went broody once after she lost her only gosling to make it to hatch, poor baby died trying to external pip, she did get 2-day old goslings to raise but it took her a couple of weeks to get over losing her gosling, she probably heard it in the shell. I could.
My Muscovy go broody and will stay broody from spring into fall even without eggs under them. They just won't quit. I have tried everything but hanging them upside down to try and break them. I just let them alone now and make sure they are coming out to eat bathe and poop.

As far as temperment

Now that my gander is gone now Missy is much more relaxed around everyone. Sam was the instigator to pushing the other birds around never attacking but just being Mr. Bossy. except when it came to My Muscovy drake. They could get into some serious fights.
Missy went in with the Ducks again this evening after I closed up she hollered out a few times and that was it. She even ate with the chickens which is not the norm. Hopefully it's the norm now.
Female geese if alone without a gander [which this is the first for me] looks like she is going to be mellow with everyone. Hopefully it will stay this way.
Sorry if I am boring everyone, I just feel I need to talk about this. I just never expected to lose Sam so fast without warning. He could be a very ornery gander but When it wasn't going on he was precious I could pet him rub his head and he'd look at me with those blue eyes and melt my heart.

14 years is along time to have a bird, I bet you have some wonderful memories of him. Did you have him from hatch?
