that’s cool. i was thinking we use lots of things that are bad for our IF we get it IN our eyes so, we are careful not to get things in our eyes. like cayenne pepper for example. that would really hurt lol ouch

Now. How can i properly dispose of the rest of this bottle? I'm a little too freaked out about it to used it anymore.. besides i can't handle the stench.

You can use Hydrogen-Peroxide to oxidate the DSMO to Dimethyl sulfone (DMSO2), which can then safely be disposed for example in your compost. DMSO2 is a compound that naturally occurs in sulfur containing nutrients, like eggs, cabbage & co, garlic, onions,.…
I theory you could eat it…
An easier way to get rid of the DSMO might be to pour it into a flat bowl and let it evaporate. Just don't dump it into a body of fresh-water as it is mildly poisonous for fish & co.

i know someone who eats a LOT of garlic and always smells like it. should we abolish garlic too?
why toss a good medicine from the vet?
does your dog smell bad or did you use it on yourself and you stink now?

In the 1970's eating garlic was very unusual in Germany and you harvested strange looks after you ate some. Nowadays there's garlic everywhere - maybe except candy - because it adds that umami taste to our food.
Anyways, as teens we loved to eat garlic (very much to the despise of our parents and the teachers) and the one thing that i remember is, that if you eat garlic, you may smell like Gilroy California in June but you yourself won't notice it at all.
The best way to get rid of that garlic body odor is to make everybody else eat garlic too.
So @shawluvsbirds won't be able to tell you if she stinks now - but everybody else around her can!

Just dug through my medicine drawer, the icy-hot cream that i have (store-brand) does not contain DSMO. Mixing Capsaicin with DSMO may be a way to practice torture, as DSMO is able to carry other substances through the skin. Imagine the burn from the capsaicin under your skin… - If DSMO is able to transport capsaicin.
Nothing in my drawer contains DSMO.

And yet, cayenne-pepper is used in pepper-sprays and you are supposed to spray it in the eyes of an attacker as a defense. - And with a lot of water it can be washed out of the eyes and won't damage them.
Apparently DSMO does not need to get directly into your eyes to harm them, high oral doses or ingestion over longer periods of time can damage the eyes. - Yet i have not found a source that details what kind of damage is done to the eye.
I guess DSMO is one of those things where the dose makes the difference between medicine and poison.
