It kind of dwpends on what time of year it is, how the drakes have neen acting. If it's breeding season and drakes are chasing girls around like crazy I wouldn't throw them in. If they are relatively calm.. and your youngins are fully feathered and full size I wouldn't worry. I'd still do the see but no touch method for a while firstAt what age did you put your female Calls in with your males? I have two born the end of April and I was not sure if they would be safe at 3 months or if I should go ahead and wait until 4 or 5 months. They are fully grown and so interested in joining the rest of the flock. I just don't want them to get overmated even though my Calls already have their favorites. I have three Call males and one Wood Duck male in the pens. I have 22 hens counting these two I hatched out the end of April.
Yes. You put the bait down inside it. The way it works is when they reach in to get it they lift that lever and that is what makes the trap go off.I bought one of those traps and set it yesterday. I was not sure if you put the food down inside the hole of the trap itself? That is where I put mine. I am hoping not to get any of the neighborhood cats. Sorry, I did not have it set right, after looking at your pictures I see where I went wrong. Sorry for being so naieve about all of this. I had never used or seen anything like these before. Thanks for your info, I get it now.
Yes, you want it standing up. And make sure you have added a strong cable or have some way of securing the trap to a tree a post or something strong. And I mean really strong. Otherwise it will take off with the trap on its foot. Which is pretty inhumane.. besides losing your trap.
